Painting in oil on cork allows James Wheeler to achieve subtle textures and although contemporary, his pieces have a timeless quality allowing for viewer interpretation evoked by his use of light and atmosphere of the landscape. He wants people to view his work and have it stir emotion and memory. James Wheeler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1944. He attended the Glasgow School of Art and became one of the UK's leading carpet designers. His inspiration is drawn from visits to his homeland, Scotland, and from holidays spent in France, Venice and the Mediterranean islands. Closer to home his love of the Lake District and magnificent Yorkshire moors also inspires him. James is a member of the Fine Arts Trade Guild and has had many successful exhibitions in England. He has been regional winner of the Laing Art Exhibition, exhibited at the Leeds Open Art Exhibition and the Leicestershire Art for Schools and Colleges Exhibition.
