Martyn Colbeck

Martyn Colbeck's love affair with elephants was first sparked 14 years ago when he was commissioned to fly to the Amboseli National Park in Kenya to photograph a family of elephants for David Attenborough's 'Trials of Life' TV series.
The subjects chosen for his collection are the only truly free wild ranging elephants in Africa. They roam 3,000 square miles, and very rarely come across any boundaries - unlike the elephants confined in safari parks. "I am infatuated with the photography of these beasts, and what I am trying to convey in this set of photographs is what it is about the elephants that make them special. Martyn Colbeck wanted to capture something of their character - the way they act, the way they live," he says.
Martyn Colbeck has been a wildlife photographer and film maker for more than 20 years. Martyn Colbeck's list of awards for his work is impressive. He has won the BBC Photographer of the Year, received two BAFTA and an Emmy nomination for cinematography, and most recently won Best Cinematography at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in Wyoming for a film he made about the African Mountains.
Martyn Colbeck's work is widely admired, and is summed up by David Attenborough who regards him as "a great wildlife cameraman". Over the years, the two men have worked on a number of projects, the latest being the BBC TV series 'Life of Mammals'.
