About the artist
Jean-Paul Turmel is a sculptor, photographer and painter who was born in 1954 in Tournan en Brie in France. Turmel cites his passion for sculpture and the creation of three-dimensional work as the influence for his non-objective forms. They are heavily etched and often overlaid, with relief impressions brought to life through light and dark hues. The expressive heavy strokes of colour empowered by the aquatint process bring depth to the imagined abstract shapes. His subjects are often thin figures but he also creates series of abstract subjects with broken lines and contrasts.
